After you buy web hosting there are a few things you will have to do to get your website online. In my previous article I mentioned being able to quickly install WordPress by signing up with Hostgator.

Before you can do that you have to first buy your domain name of course. You can get cheap domain names from Namecheap.com.
Once you buy your domain name you will have to do what is called “Transfer your DNS servers.” DNS stands for Domain name servers and it’s basically the process of telling your Domain name registrar (Namecheap) where your website files are being hosted.
Once your Domain name registrar knows where you files are being hosted that is what allows your website to show online.
This is all done behind the scenes and all you have to do is point your Domain name registrar in the right direction by inputting two simple pieces of code that your hosting company will provide you once you sign up for your account.
You will receive an email immediately after signing up for your account that will contain the information below
Your Control Panel: https://gator1099.hostgator.
Your Domain: example.com
Your Username: example
Your Password: example
Your Nameservers:
NS1: nxxxxx.hostgator.com
NS2: nxxxxx.hostgator.com
The text highlighted in yellow is your unique nameservers that you should not share with anyone unless you have 100% trust in them or it’s a professional company helping you create your website.
This process of changing your name servers may also take between 24-48 hours to take affect.
Once your name servers have changed you have to log in to your hosting Control panel and add your domain if it’s not already viewable.
Once all of that is set up your are one step away from installing the widely used WordPress Platform. This is also done via your Hosting control panel by using the application called “Fantastico” which is a blue happy face.
